Update

As you know, the trial concluded and the judge ruled in our favor. Miles' parental rights were terminated, which means that after two and half long years, we can make plans to legally adopt him. However, a biological parent has the right to file appeal and if her appeal is granted, she would be given a new trial. As expected, she did appeal the ruling. The attorneys have assured us that she has no grounds for appeal. The judge's ruling was fact based and he even took the time to write a six page summary outlining the reasons for the ruling.

What does this mean? It means that we simply have to wait the process out. It will likely delay our adoption day by 6 months, to a year. But, on the bright side, nothing will change. Miles will still have no contact with his biological mom. We won't be forced to have any kind of interaction or input from her. We live like a family, just as we have been. We just have to be patient and wait a little bit longer to change Miles' name legally and make everything official. We are praying the courts are swift. Miles deserves permanency and the finish line is in sight.
